3600? I’ve worked on 3516 cats and 7024 Waukesha but nothing that big
@@kadenbetts03 these aren't even the biggest we have. In the past 2 years we have installed 8 electric compressors that push 30mmcf EACH. You can see one of them just after the 4:00 mark.
and i am in need now i have a 75 year old living in a trailer without hot water for a week now and we just went through a hurricane making things worse. i thought i would be able to simply fix it in a few minutes today until i ran into this problem.
i would like to know what you replaced the 45 with that connects the gas because the new thermostat does not have the same size thread connection as the old 45.
@@joshualukehart2295 On my camper the gas line was copper tubing. Adapting from a different size thread should not be very difficult.
Propane gas needs yellow tape .
@@garydavis6341 it will be fine.
Real clean
SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESHHHHHH
Clean ass unit😩😩😩
I was trying to remove the ild one but couldn't figure out how to get it off.i guess the answer is big ass channel locks!
😂 yessir
I just started working on compressor stations and still in training I’ve done pumping and was a pipeline op would you mind giving me the flow of a compressor station or LGL so I can copy and paste it to go over when my evaluation comes up lol
I have hot water and it's about 140 to 145 degrees and I can't seem to adjust the temperature. I don't understand why 🤔 I have the thermostat temperature adjustment dial set on warm, I can turn the dial almost all the way down and it still doesn't adjust the temperature. Turn the dial up/down, nothing. I can't adjust the temperature for the life of me. 😕
Probably have the electric element turned on. My switch is under the sink.
@@hgffrank it's all manual, Atwood 6 gallon propane water heater with a manual control valve and a propane pilot. I replaced the entire pilot light assembly and thermal couple, that's all working great, thermal couple heats up opens the valve and it fires great. I just can't seem to adjust the temperature with the manual thermostat for some reason. I don't understand, I turn the thermostat dial way down and it still seems to run around 140 to 150 degrees. I'm lost at this stage of the game, but thanks for your great video and responding so quick. I don't think it's a faulty valve, I did find the same Robert Shaw on Amazon though.
@@josephnaja good luck. I only mentioned it because mine is gas and electric, but has no regulation ability on the electric side so it's balls to the walls when turned on. Fabulous when several people need to shower, but not so great when it's been left on.
@@hgffrank Thanks man
Love a cat on a Ariel package 😏😏
Can you provide replacement gas control valve resource to purchase?
Great vid, simple and straight to the point; thanks for posting. I have the same water heater and it start right away but cuts off after about 30 seconds. So im thinking about replacing the valve cause its there were all the controls are. What do u think?
0:01-0:04 I MISS THAT SOOOO MUCH!!!!😪😪😪😪😪😪😪😪😪😪
Just switched mine out didn't know about not putting tape on the first two threads mine worked for a day pilot light won't stay lit now also a new coupler was added I hope I don't have to go back to boiling water on the stove and dumping it in the tub aggravating with a brand new gas valve video helped I'm going to go out and check the coupler and see if it's not touching anything I did learn that from you too
Can’t get it to come out. I have everything off of it. Counter clockwise. Don’t wanna go. Any suggestions?
Soak with penetration oil. Propane torch. Keep a 🧯 on hand. That foam insulation will burn
Thanks Frank for the video, I live in my RV six months a year, lucky I can plug in and dump waste next to my daughter’s house but I can’t make hot water with a broken water heater ,I boil water and mix it in the sink or just go full commando and wash up with cold, no good, my set up is just like yours but from 83’, I’m gonna soak that main joint with some penetrating oil and have a torch ready, thanks again for a well done no BS video, well done sir!
I pray you can find the gas valve, it's been discontinued for a couple years now. Best bet is taking old valve to RV service shop and seeing if they can match it up with a new one.
@@hgffrank It's available through ebay.
I found the same valve on Amazon
@@josephnaja- what is the part number for a replacement?
@@allenkujawa2853 I'll find it... I have it bookmarked on my Amazon list. I've been really busy but I should be able to provide that for you.
Where did you get the replacement gas valve?
It doesn't matter, because as far as I know it's been discontinued. Now they expect everyone to buy a complete new water heater. Best bet may be finding old campers and getting one used. If I had to do it again, I would take old one to RV service shop and see if they can match it up with a new one. As long as the thread is the same or adaptable, and the btu ratings are reasonably close, you should be fine.
Thanks a lot for you help!!! :)
Thanks for your video sir
Hey how ya doing? I'm fron Canada, need these valve for my camper, but can not find a model number or proper replacement, do you have a source for this valve you could share with me?
Unfortunately not, sorry. The manufacturer decided to discontinue the part to force people to buy entirely new water heaters 😭
Thank you, my mother hired someone to come out to her camper and charged 130. For nothing, she is retired and is on a budget. Not sure if the technician even came. No evidence of being here. No call letting her know what needs to be done 😢
What happens when you don't service these engines.
Wrong, it happens in spite of good service. This engine had 273,000 very hard miles. It Always had an oil change when due. In fact the oil was changed the day before this happened
Still happens when you don't service these engines.
The gas valve you recommend in your post. Was it a ng or lp valve. When I click know it. It takes me to a Ng one.
Thanks I have the same one but the link to the gas valve is out of stock do you have the Robertshaw number?
Yes it is, and I don't really know what to tell people. I tried finding a suitable replacement but I was unable. Best advice I have would be to get in touch with rv repair centers near you and give them your water heater model number. I spoke briefly with the repair center here and short answer was that they would rather sell an entirely new water heater than provide parts for an old unit that could become a liability for them. Yes, I know it's stupid, but all a person would have to do is say they were told it would fix the problem and the service center would share liability.
Is the block fucked if it spins a main?
No, the bearing can be replaced, but if you have to buy a crankshaft, then the overall cost will make it more cost effective to buy a new short block
You may have to re-surface and get oversized bearings, that's about it. Learned this the hard way when I spun the #3 main bearing in a Buick 3.8.
Thank you for the video, this is the exact model we have and I have been hunting for a match and here it is. My valve hose was loose and leaking gas,i bought a new valve control like the one here but I am hoping that now that we tightened the gas connection we can skip changing it but if we do this is the video we need
Hey Frank. Was reaching out for any tips. I replaced the thermo couple and the control valve. The pilot still goes out. If you have any suggestions Lmk. Thanks again for your video. I followed it and it was very helpful. Wondering if I’m missing something so simple or something.
With a new valve, good gas supply pressure and new thermocouple the most obvious to me would be TC positioning. The tip should be directly in flame. Is it possible you over tightened the TC. Just barely Finger tight is tight enough. More than the and TC is damaged.
@@hgffrank I will check these suggestions in the daylight. Thank you! I did not tighten TC that much, but wondering if it could be damaged or faulty even though it’s new? I was thinking to get a multimeter to test. This is frustrating so I appreciate you responding.
I got it to work! Thanks again
@@alexisarchibald Can I ask what the problem was? Thanks
Thank you! This is the only video out there for this model!
Happy I could help
thank you frank for the vid!!
I'm going to assume that you did not know to not use Teflon tape in a gas line application. You need to use pipe dope that is certified for gas line applications.
Any idea where I can get this exact gas valve?
Sorry, it's been years, and it was hard to find even then. If you need this exact valve then go to arv service center and ask for it, they probably have it.
It looks like you didn't take the plastic protective sleeve off the end of the gas valve probe that goes in the water heater so if you have a plastic smell or it's not adjusting properly it's most likely because of the protection sleeve the probe.
Manufacturer specifically states DO NOT REMOVE PLASTIC SLEEVE
@@hgffrank I would have thought that would have contaminated the water but I guess that was wrong.
@@buddysmith6861 they use that to prevent buildup on the temp probe.
Thank you so much! I am new to campers and appreciate your help.
Whats the part number for the new Robert shaw? Please
I highly recommend a PRV on the suction to help control suction pressure great video. How well does the insulation work for you during cold weather here in west Texas we still freeze all three dump stages with heat trace and insulated.
I'm in West Texas also. They aren't really a problem unless the unit goes down. Then we have to drain the scrubbers to prevent freezing
You ain’t lying there brother. Had a fucking hydrate a couple weeks ago and that was fucking scary lol
Nice clean skid, thanks to ariel, that a 2 or 3 stage? Cat or waukesha engine,
All 3 stage Cats
I try to tell people this ,,but they never listen
I’m wondering if this will solve my particular problem. My pilot will stay lit and will fire up (after a few tries) once burnet is turned on but it won’t stay on. It goes out after a few minutes. I’ll give this a try. Thx for the video!
Good work
Thanks! Redoing a 1986 Coachman and want to rebuild the water heater. This is exactly what I needed!
What’s the name of the replacement sir
The Atwood Gas Control Valve shown is no longer produced. Dometic bought Atwood and canceled all production forcing people to buy a new Dometic water heater. Sigh. However, IF you are able to find a Robertshaw 110-503 (Robertshaw Uniline, Brownsville, TX 951-734-2600), it will indeed fit. They can direct you to a reseller or maybe you can order directly from them if you have a business. I have also seen adverts for the 110-503 from Grainger (most expensive - but still much less than a new water heater). You will need a 1/2" reducer bushing to use your same inlet fitting. The only other simple mod needed is to enlarge the hole for the inlet gas line so it will easily mate with the fitting in the 110-503. I did this with a rat tail file in about 5 minutes. Hope this helps.
And was it a stock engine or flashed up?
Was a stock engine with custom tuning. Nothing crazy though. Tuning was on it for about 6 years before this happened. Truck was 121k miles when I bought it. At 140k it was tuned and was 273k when this happened.
I am a crank engineer for Ford. Factory tuning is done to achieve performance objectives with a prescribed design safety factor. Power levels today dictate that the safety factors are lower than the past (physics), so reflashing can violate these. Crankshafts are engineered for infinite life under the prescribed cylinder pressures. No doubt your application exceeded that as if there were a mfg or material defect, it would occurr in the first 10K miles.
Thanks Frank, great vid, I am having trouble accessing one at the moment and was wondering about the two wires in the back, they go to a non replaceable cutout. Now I know you should never mess about with gas controllers, and bypassing safety items is perhaps a no-no BUT if I bypass this it will work fine, and I think it is just for overheat? These are available for later models as a separate piece and replaceable. Any big problem putting one of the replaceable ones inline and putting it back? parachutist pulls his cord, nothing happens, oh shite he thinks, pulls his emergency cord, still nothing happens, plummeting to earth, about to meet his maker, he sees someone going the other way, "hey, do you know anything about parachutes?" "no" says the other guy "do you know anything about gas control valves?"
I thought it was vice versa. The robertshaw was discontinued for the jade white rogers. Thats what the attwood manual states. Perhaps they reverted back?
Who knows. My kid moved here to go to college and lives in the camper. Water heater still working great.
Great video this sounds like a stupid question but, there is a plastic band at the themocoupler fitting. Does that get removed? Not sure to take off or leave on. Thanks, I also know this vid is over 4 years old but if anyone can help please do.
The plastic sleeve that fits over the end that goes into the tank? That stays on.
@@hgffrank no, that I kept, there like a blue plastic tie band that runs across where the fitting of the themocoupler goes into, not sure if it stays or goes.
@@randybrawdy3050 without seeing it I can't be 100%, but if it's on the pipe fitting itself, then it's most likely thread sealant. Leave it on.
@@randybrawdy3050 At the 3:27 Mark on the video you can see the thread sealer I added to mine.
Great video. Straight forward. I have same heater. Will be repair before next trip
That's not a drain plug , it's a place for the electric heating heating element . You can add that easily and Amazon sellez the kit for 126 for the 6 gal and 143 for the 10 gal . Heats quicker to have both and pretty much gives you 15 gals before getting cold
It already has an electric heating element and it's not in that location
Thank you man, my buddy has the same water heater and the same problem on his.
Make sure he uses yellow Teflon, not white like I did.. 😂 ya live, ya learn
